HOW DOES THERAPY WORK?
Do I need Psychotherapy or Counselling?
Though the terms are often used interchangeably, psychotherapy is helpful for more deep-rooted issues and is a longer process. Counselling is often sought when a crisis emerges and is usually a short-term process focusing on a specific goal. When you are seeking help, these labels aren’t important. Restoring your mental well-being will come from a variety of approaches and disciplines.
Integrative Psychotherapy
I am a highly experienced psychotherapist, counsellor and mindfulness teacher. I use my skills, knowledge and experience to reveal and interpret root causes, however complex. I then give structured help and support to make your road to healing and balanced mental health as robust as possible.
I offer an Integrative, relational approach, where we can gently explore at your pace, the challenges you are facing. You’ll be in a compassionate space to gain understanding and move forward, gaining awareness, healing and success along the way.
Integrative psychotherapy is flexible and combines techniques from different therapeutic models. Instead of sticking to one rigid method, it integrates multiple psychological theories and practices (like cognitive-behavioral therapy, psychodynamic therapy, humanistic approaches) to address the emotional, cognitive, behavioral, and relational concerns holistically. The goal is to create a personalized treatment plan that supports the your overall well-being and personal growth as a unique individual.
Integrative Psychotherapy helps you live a life with choices, developing greater ease, understanding, presence, kindness, healthier boundaries and supporting you when you feel stuck. We focus on the process of change which may relate to early life, unconscious experiences manifesting in everyday relationships with yourself and others.
How do I know I need therapy?
Everyone can benefit from therapy as keeping perspective and general coping, often through turmoil, is life-long. People tend to seek help when they feel uncomfortable, sad or out of control to a lesser or greater degree. Therapy will give you the opportunity to be heard and understood; then receive the help and ‘tools’ needed to live the life you want.
Emotional distress, difficulty coping with life events, strained relationships, no motivation, negativity, unexplained illness, harmful behaviours or a feeling of being stuck are flags that a therapist can help.
How do I start therapy?
If you are reading this, then you are considering whether I’m the right therapist for you. It’s easy to take the next step which is to make contact. Clients usually email me first giving a brief summary of their situation and their phone number. We arrange a convenient time for a free 20 minute call. I can find out more about you and you will be able to decide whether you want to continue.
If you decide to begin therapy, you can email me to book a 50 minute session. Sessions can be in person or online (via Zoom) see Appointments for details. Payment is always made before a session can take place. I’ll email payment details prior to the session. If you need to cancel an appointment, please email at least 24 hours beforehand. See Appointments for more details.
Will I have to continue with therapy?
Everyone is different and continuation with therapy will depend on many things. You may only need a few or ongoing sessions. Some clients have had sessions but want to refresh their coping skills or they just need to talk during times of crisis. You can book multiple sessions in advance or one session at a time for flexibility. One thing is a constant – you are always in control and you can stop or restart at your own pace.
